Steven H. Snyder & Associates handles family and divorce-related matters throughout Minnesota. We also have extensive experience drafting legal separation agreements and marital property agreements, and we are known statewide, nationally and internationally for our work with surrogacy, egg donation, embryo donation/adoption, infertility assistance and adoption proceedings.
We assist clients in all areas of family law, including:
- Surrogacy. Surrogacyallows intended parents where the woman cannot carry a baby to term tohave a child genetically related to one or both of them. When one or both of the parents is not genetically related to a child because of surrogacy or egg donation, our firm arranges for the non-related parent to adopt the child, if necessary.
- Ovum (Egg) Donation. Egg donation allows a woman to carry and deliver her husband's child even whenher body cannot produce ova.
- Embryo Donation/Adoption. When it is not physically or economically possible for intended parents to createtheir own embryos, we assist with the legal donation of other parents' embryos to the intended parents for their own use.
- Divorce. Divorce is not easy, but it is common. Close to 50% of all marriages endin divorce. Our divorce lawyers help you navigate the process asefficiently as possible.
- Child Support. Either parent may be requiredto contribute to the support of his or her children. Support contributionsare based on the income of both parents, the number of children in thehousehold, the amount of parenting time and other considerations. We make surethat the calculations are fair and in the best interests of the children.
- Custody and Parenting Time. Custody refers to wherechildren live and for how long. It also describes the decision-makingauthority of each parent. Parenting time, also known as visitation, details the contact the child has with each parent. Minnesota law allowsmany variations in custody and visitation. Our family law attorneys candevelop proposals that work for you and your children.
- Spousal Maintenance. Also referred to as alimony, either husband or wife can be required to pay spousal maintenance.
- Property Division. As part of a divorce, anyproperty acquired by either party during the marriage must be dividedequitably, or fairly. We make sure our clients' interests are properlyrepresented during this process. Property division is accomplished eitherby an agreement between the parties or a court order.
- Ante-Nuptial Agreements. Ante-nuptial agreements, alsocalled prenuptial agreements, allow couples to determine what will happenin the event of death, divorceor separation. A prenuptial agreement can cover almost anything.
- Adoption. We assistpeople in all of the ways that individuals and couples can become parentsthrough adoption. Whether you want to adopt through an agency or directly from a birth mother, whether domestic or international, we can assist you in the legal aspectsof building your family through adoption.
- Post-Judgment Modification. When your circumstances orthose of your ex-spouse change after divorce, you may be able to obtain amodification of a child support or spousal maintenance order.
- Paternity. Paternity actions determine whether a man is the father of a child. Eitherparent can use a paternity action to challenge or deny support, custody orvisitation.
- Arbitrationand Mediation. Many family law issues can beresolved through arbitration or mediation. These forms of alternative dispute resolution are usually less expensive, less time consuming and less stressful.
We support our clients by effectively representing their legal interests and making sure they receive the emotional support they need during a difficult time. We always try to find the most efficient and cost-effective form of resolution for each client. The issues within family law can be complex. Our goal is to make the legal part as easy as possible.
